VOORHEES TOWNSHIP, NJ.- On Thursday, following a trial in Camden County Superior Court, a 53-year-old Voorhees Township, New Jersey, man was found guilty of murder for strangling his wife to death inside their Voorhees Township home in August of 2021.

According to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, Shawn Lichtfuss, 53, of Voorhees Township, was found guilty on Thursday, September 18, 2025, of first-degree Murder in the death of his wife, 38-year-old Stefanie Caraway. The verdict was returned following a six-day trial in Camden County Superior Court. The jury deliberated for just 45 minutes before finding Lichtfuss guilty.

Conviction Stems From The July 2021 Murder Of His Wife

On Tuesday, August 3, 2021, shortly before 11:00 a.m., members of the Voorhees Township Police Department received a 911 Emergency Call from a concerned individual requesting a welfare check of Lichtfuss after receiving text messages from him implying that he may hurt himself. Upon arriving at Lichtfuss’ residence and receiving no response at the door, Police Officers made entry into the home and found the lifeless body of Ms. Caraway in a bedroom. Police Officers were unable to locate Lichtfuss inside the residence.

Later that day, Lichtfuss was located parked in a vehicle at a local Voorhees Township gas station and taken into custody without incident. During interviews with Detectives, Lichtfuss confessed to putting his wife in a chokehold. During a subsequent autopsy, the Regional Medical Examiner determined the Cause of Death to be Neck compressions and the Manner of Death to be Homicide.

Following the jury returning their findings of guilt, the Court accepted the verdict and set sentencing for a time and date to be determined by the Court.
