Police Charge Maryland Man In Northwest D.C. Shooting Investigation

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Thursday, following an investigation, a 24-year-old Fort Washington, Maryland, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with a shots-fired incident that occurred early last month in Northwest, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Saturday, August 2, 2025, shortly before 4:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District responded to reports of gunfire on the Unit Block of Florida Avenue in Northwest, D.C.

Police Officer Learn The Victim Was Shot At, But Uninjured

     Upon arrival, Police Officers located a victim who reported that while on Florida Avenue, he was shot at, but uninjured, by an unknown suspect who fled the scene. During the initial investigation, Police Officers located property that had been struck and damaged by gunfire.

     During the ensuing investigation, Detectives, based on witness accounts and video camera footage recovered, were able to identify the suspect as Antwon Lake, 24, of Fort Washington, Maryland, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

     On Thursday, September 18, 2025, pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court warrant, Lake was located and taken into custody. Following being taken into custody, Lake was formally charged with one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon; and one count of Destruction of Property. He was processed on the charges and remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
