Police Charge Man In Southeast, D.C., Fatal Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Monday, following an investigation, a 40-year-old Washington, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with fatally gunning down a 50-year-old Northwest, D.C., man back in July in Southeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, just minutes after 2:00 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s First District responded to a report of gunfire on the 1800 Block of E Street in Southeast, D.C.
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man, later identified as Lawrence Meekins, 50, of Northwest, D.C., unresponsive on the ground, having succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. At the time, Mr. Meekins was pronounced deceased at the scene by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
During The Investigation, Detectives Identify Richardson As The Suspect
During the ensuing investigation, Homicide Branch Detectives were able to identify Ramone Richardson, 40, of Southeast, D.C., as the shooter and the individual responsible for Mr. Meekins’ death, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Monday, September 22, 2025, pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court warrant, members of the Metropolitan Police Department responded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility and arrested Richardson, where he is being detained on an unrelated charge, and formally charged him with one count of second-degree Murder While Armed and related Weapons Offenses.
