JERSEY CITY, NJ.- On Monday, following an investigation, a 35-year-old North Bergen, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged by Detectives of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in connection with the alleged stabbing of a woman, which occurred on Saturday in Union City, New Jersey.

According to Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello, on Monday, September 29, 2025, Detectives formally charged Axel Fuentes-Zavala, 35, of North Bergen, New Jersey, with one count of Aggravated Assault; fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

Fuentes-Zavala was taken into custody at his residence in North Bergen, New Jersey. He was processed on the charges and remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending future court proceedings in Hudson County Superior Court in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Charges Stem From A Saturday Stabbing Investigation

The charges stem from an investigation that began on Saturday, September 27, 2025, when members of the Union City Police Department responded to a report of a stabbing near the intersection of 30th and Jeanette Streets in Union City. Upon arrival, Police Officers located a woman who reported that she had been approached by an unknown man who stabbed her multiple times in the back, inflicting multiple non-life-threatening injuries. The woman was treated at a local hospital for her injuries.

During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and the Union City Police Department were able to identify Fuentes-Zavala as the assailant. During further investigation, Detectives learned that Fuentes-Zavala was wanted in connection with a similar offense that occurred in North Bergen, New Jersey, and was arrested on an open warrant related to that incident.
