Police Asking For The Public’s Assistance In Cranford Fatal Hit & Run

CRANFORD, NJ.- Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniels reported that Detectives of the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force and the Cranford Police Department are asking for the public’s assistance in the continuing investigation into a fatal hit-and-run collision that tragically claimed the lives of two 17-year-old girls, late Monday afternoon in Cranford, New Jersey.

     As previously reported, on Monday, September 29, 2025, just shortly before 5:30 p.m., members of the Cranford Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting two teenage girls being struck by a motor vehicle while they were riding on an electric bike on Burnside Avenue in Cranford.

     Upon arrival, Police Officer located two 17-year-old Cranford, New Jersey, girls, unresponsive, having sustained life-threatening injuries by being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. Both girls were transported to nearby hospitals, where, despite life-saving efforts, both girls succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased a short time later.

     During the initial investigation, the driver was located shortly thereafter and taken into custody by members of the Cranford and Garwood Police Departments. No charges have been reported at this time.

Prosecutor Daniel Asks For The Public’s Assistance

     Union County Prosecutor Daniel is asking residents and or anyone who may have been traveling in the area of Hillcrest Avenue, Burnside Avenue, and Lincoln Avenue in Cranford around the time of the crash to check their home surveillance cameras or dash cameras, specifically depicting a 2021 black Jeep Compass Utility 4D Altitude 4WD with tinted windows. In particular, Investigators are looking for any witnesses to the crash and or any video depicting the suspected vehicle before and after the crash. The suspect vehicle can be seen in the above photo.

     The investigation remains active and ongoing.
