Bergen County Woman Charged With Child Abuse & Assault

GARFIELD, NJ.- On Thursday, following an investigation, a 33-year-old Garfield, New Jersey, woman was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with physically abusing a child.

      According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, a caseworker with the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding an alleged child abuse incident that had occurred the day before in Garfield, New Jersey.

Detectives Find Evidence Of Child Abuse

     During the initial investigation, Detectives of the Bergen County Special Victims Unit and the Garfield Police Department quickly determined that Darlene Guzman, 33, of Garfield, New Jersey, physically assaulted and abused a child in Garfield, New Jersey, on or about Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

     Accordingly, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, Guzman was taken into custody and formally charged by Detectives with one count of second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; and a Disorderly Persons Offense of Simple Assault. She was processed on the charges and remanded to the Bergen County Jail, pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
