Police Charge Two Men In Northwest D.C. Shooting Death Of Maryland Man

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Friday, a 23-year-old Northeast, D.C., man and a 24-year-old Southeast, D.C., man were taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with fatally gunning down a 35-year-old Waldorf, Maryland man back in May 2025, in Northwest, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, just minutes before 4:00 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District responded to sounds of gunfire on the 1600 Block of 14th Street in Northwest, D.C.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Henry Crutchfield, 35, of Waldorf, Maryland, unresponsive, having succumbed to a fatal gunshot wound. Mr. Crutchfield was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services.

Detectives Identify Brown And Whitehed As The Suspects

     During the ensuing investigation, D.C. Homicide Branch Detectives, based on witness accounts and video surveillance footage of the surrounding area, were able to identify two men, Damari Brown, 23, of Northeast, D.C., and Antoin Whitehead, 24, of Southeast, D.C., as the suspects and the individuals responsible for the shooting death of Mr. Crutchfield and warrants were issued for their arrests.

     Accordingly, on Friday, October 3, 2025, pursuant to D.C. Superior Court warrants, members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and apprehended both Brown and Whitehead. Following being taken into custody, both men were each charged with one count of first-degree Murder While Armed and related Weapons Offenses.

     Brown and Whitehead were processed on the charges and remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
