Bergen County Fire Officials Rule Sunday’s Residential Fire Accidental

GARFIELD, NJ.- On Monday, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella reported the following information regarding a four-alarm fire that occurred on the 500 Block of Palisades Avenue in Garfield, New Jersey, on Sunday, October 5, 2025, which left multiple residential structures damaged, over two dozen residents displaced, and a Firefighter injured.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at around 12:16 p.m., members of the Garfield Police Department and the Garfield Fire Department, along with mutual aid from surrounding agencies, responded to a four-alarm fire, which initially started within a shed located behind a residence located at 568 Palisades Avenue in Garfield.
The fire then spread to the residence, with further extension to multiple surrounding residential structures. During their initial response and fire suppression efforts, the Garfield Police Department and Garfield Firefighters ensured that all affected structures were evacuated. A Firefighter from the Hackensack Fire Department was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, suffering from heat exhaustion, where he was treated and released Sunday evening.
Investigators Determine The Fire Was Not Suspicious
   A subsequent investigation by Investigators of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Arson Task Force, the Garfield Police Department, and Garfield Fire Officials determined that the fire did not appear to be suspicious in nature.
