FORT LEE, NJ.- On Wednesday, a Fort Lee, New Jersey, man learned he would be spending at least a decade in New Jersey State Prison, after being convicted for the August 2023, brutal stabbing of a man outside his Fort Lee, New Jersey, home.

According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, following a two-week trial in Bergen County Superior Court before the Honorable Christopher R. Kazlau, a jury found Freddy Pina guilty of second-degree Aggravated Assault; third-degree Aggravated Assault; third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

Judge Kazlau Schedules Sentencing For Early December

Following the jury returning their finding of guilt, Judge Kazlau accepted the verdict and scheduled sentencing for Friday, December 12, 2025. At that time, Pina faces up to 10 years in State Prison on the second-degree charge and up to five years on each of the third-degree charges, and an additional 18 months on the fourth-degree charge, and up to $175,000 in fines.

The conviction stems from an incident that occurred on Saturday, August 5, 2023, when, during the early morning hours, Pina approached the male victim outside Pina’s Fort Lee home and stabbed him with a seven-inch knife, eviscerating him. The victim underwent surgery, and during emergency surgery, one of the victim’s kidneys had to be partially removed. Police Officers recovered the knife outside Pina’s home. Pina later turned himself in to the Police just around two hours after the stabbing.

Prosecutor Musella commended the investigative work of the Fort Lee Police Department, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, and Bergen County Assistant Prosecutor Christine Gorzelany, which led to Pina’s conviction on Wednesday.
