Police Second Teen In October 2024 Northwest Shots Fired Incident

WASHINGTON, DC.- Last Thursday, a 19-year-old Washington, D.C., was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with a shooting that occurred in October of 2024 in Northwest, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Monday, October 14, 2025, at around 10:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to sounds of gunfire on the 700 Block of N Street in Northwest, D.C.
Upon Arrival, Police Officers Find Shell Casings
Upon arrival, Police Officers found evidence of a shooting crime scene, but were unable to locate a victim or victims. Following inquiries with area hospitals, Police Officers determined that no one was injured in the shooting.
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives, based on area video surveillance footage, were able to identify two suspects, and warrants were issued for their arrests. As previously reported, on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Detectives located and arrested one of the suspects, identified as Lorenzo Covington, 19, of Northwest, D.C., and formally charged him pursuant to a DC Superior Court warrant with one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. After being processed on the charge, Covington was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings.
On Thursday, October 9, 2025, Detectives located and arrested Zion Greely, 19, also of Northwest, D.C., and formally charged him pursuant to a DC Superior Court warrant with one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. Greely was processed on the charge and remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings.
