Police Charged Man In Sunday Night Shooting Death

CAMDEN, NJ.- On Tuesday, following an investigation, a 40-year-old Camden, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with allegedly gunning down a 32-year-old man Sunday night in Camden City, New Jersey.
According to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, Neftalie Sanabria, 40, of Camden, New Jersey, was formally charged with first-degree Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Sanabria was additionally charged with one count of second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.
Charges Stem From A Sunday Night Homicide Investigation
The charges stem from an investigation that began on Sunday, October 12, 2025, when, just shortly before 9:00 p.m., members of the Camden County Police Department responded to a report of a shooting on the 2500 Block of Baird Boulevard in the City of Camden.
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a male gunshot victim, identified as Joshua Cruz, 32, of Camden, New Jersey, who was unresponsive, having sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound. Mr. Cruz was immediately transported to Cooper University Hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Cruz succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased shortly after 9:00 p.m.
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Camden County Police Department quickly identified Sanabria as the shooter and the individual responsible for Mr. Cruz’s murder.
On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Sanabria was located and taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, Camden Division. Sanabria was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending future court proceedings in Camden County Superior Court in Camden, New Jersey. The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion with the court to detain Sanabria pending trial.
