Former Trump National Security Adviser Faces Federal Charges After FBI Raid Uncovers Sensitive Materials

GREENBELT, MD.- In a dramatic escalation of ongoing probes into high-level retention of government secrets, former National Security Adviser John Bolton has been indicted by a Federal Grand Jury for the District of Maryland, on eighteen counts in connection with the alleged mishandling of classified information.

The sealed indictment, unsealed today, accuses Bolton of unlawfully retaining and transmitting sensitive material after leaving government service. The charges stem in part from an August 2025 FBI operation that searched Bolton’s Maryland residence and Washington, D.C. office, seizing documents marked “classified,” “secret,” and “confidential.”

Bolton, a longtime diplomat and Republican foreign policy figure, sharply broke with former President Donald Trump after his dismissal from the administration in 2019. His 2020 memoir, The Room Where It Happened, drew scrutiny for allegedly disclosing sensitive information, though no charges were brought at the time.

In a statement, Bolton’s legal team denied all wrongdoing, saying the documents in question include materials from decades past and that his public disclosures underwent required review.

The case will now proceed through the federal court system, with Bolton likely required to appear for arraignment. Legal analysts anticipate contentious litigation over classification determinations, intent, and the statute of limitations.

“This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available, and once the charging information is unsealed in the indictment.”
