Police Charge Man With The Northwest Fatal Stabbing Of A Maryland Man

WASHINGTON, DC.- Yesterday, a 35-year-old man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with allegedly stabbing a 31-year-old Gaithersburg, Maryland, man to death in late July in Northwest, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, just shortly before 12:30 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a stabbing on the 700 Block of V Street in Northwest, D.C.
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man, later identified as Jonathan Simmons-Miller, 31, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, suffering from a life-threatening stab wound. Mr. Simmons-Miller was transported to an area hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Simmons-Miller succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased a short time later.
During The Investigation, Detectives Identified Bryant As The Suspect
During the ensuing investigation, Homicide Branch Detectives, based on witness accounts and area video surveillance footage, were able to identify the assailant as Leon Bryant, 35, with no known address, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Thursday, October 16, 2025, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Fugitive Unit arrested Bryant and formally charged him with first-degree Murder While Armed. Bryant was served and processed on the charges at the D.C. Central Detention Facility, where he is being detained on an unrelated matter.
