Woman Charged In Last Saturday’s Atlantic City Beating Death

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ.- On Wednesday, a 22-year-old Atlantic City, New Jersey, woman was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the death of Christina Burdette, 38, whose lifeless body was found last Saturday morning inside an Atlantic City, New Jersey home.

     According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, on Saturday, October 11, 2025, just shortly after 10:00 a.m., members of the Atlantic City Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting an unresponsive woman inside a residence located on the 2000 Block of Sheridan Avenue in the City.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers located the body of Ms. Burdette inside the home. Ms. Burdette was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene. During the ensuing investigation, the Southern Regional Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be complications of multiple blunt force trauma injuries with chronic abuse, and the Manner of Death to be Homicide. 

Detectives Identify And Charge Ceani Barnes For The Murder

     During further investigation, Detectives of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, the Atlantic City Police Department, with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Galloway Township Police Department, and the New Jersey Department of Labor, were able to identify Ceani Barnes, 22, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, as the suspect and the individual responsible for Ms. Burdette’s death. 

     On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Barnes was taken into custody and formally charged with one count of first-degree Aggravated Manslaughter. Barnes was processed on the charge and was detained pending future court proceedings in Atlantic County Superior Court in Mays Landing, New Jersey.

     Police did not release whether Ms. Burdette and Barnes were known to each other.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
