Police Charge Man In March 2025 Southeast, D.C. Fatal Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Thursday, a 32-year-old Washington, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with fatally gunning down a 29-year-old man back in March in Southeast, D.C.

     According to D.C.Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Thursday, March 27, 20265, just shortly before 3:30 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to a report of gunfire on the 3800 Block of 1st Street in Southeast, D.C.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man, later identified as Benjamin Mingo, 29, of Northeast, D.C., unresponsive, on the ground, having sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound. Mr. Mingo was transported to an area hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, he succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

     During the ensuing investigation, based on witness accounts and area video surveillance footage, Detectives identified the suspect as Clarence Edward Jones, Jr., 32, of Southeast, D.C., and issued a warrant for his arrest.

     On Thursday, October 23, 2025, pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Jones on the charge of first-degree Premeditated Murder While Armed. Jones was processed on the charge and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
