Hackensack Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting A Child

GARFIELD, NJ.- On Friday, following a swift-moving child sex crimes investigation, a 46-year-old Hackensack, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the alleged repeated sexual assaults of a juvenile.
According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Thursday, October 23, 2025, the Garfield Police Department contacted the Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit after the Department had received a report regarding the sexual assault of a juvenile that had occurred earlier that day.
Detectives Uncover That Multiple Sexual Assaults Occurred
During the ensuing investigation, and following interviewing witnesses, including the child victim, Detectives of the Bergen County Special Victims Unit and the Garfield Police Department quickly determined that Jorge E. Mejia, 46, of Hackensack, New Jersey, sexually assaulted and endangered the child in Garfield and Hackensack, New Jersey, on multiple occasions beginning in July 2025.
Accordingly, on Friday, October 24, 2025, Mejia was taken into custody by Detectives and formally charged with four counts of second-degree Sexual Assault; and one count of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Mejia was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
