CAMDEN, NJ.- Last Monday, a 25-year-old Camden, New Jersey, man learned he will be spending over three decades in New Jersey State Prison, after being convicted earlier this summer for pulling off two brazen gunpoint robberies at a Collingswood, New Jersey apartment building and leading Police on a high-speed pursuit through Camden, New Jersey in 2021.

According to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, on Monday, October 20, 2025, Jaquis Burton, 25, of Camden, New Jersey, appeared in Camden County Superior Court and was sentenced to 33 years in State Prison. Under the terms of the sentence, Burton will be required to serve 28 years of his custodial term before becoming eligible for parole.

Burton Convicted In Late June On Multiple Charges

On June 25, 2025, following a five-day trial in Camden County Superior Court, a jury found Burton guilty of two counts of first-degree Robbery; one count each of second-degree Burglary; second-degree Conspiracy to Commit Robbery; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; second-degree Eluding; third-degree Theft; third-degree Aggravated Assault; fourth-degree Aggravated Assault; and fourth-degree Resisting Arrest.

In addition, the jury found Burton guilty of four counts of third-degree Criminal Restraint; and two counts each of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; and a Disorderly Persons Offense of Simple Assault.

During the trial, evidence was presented that proved beyond a reasonable doubt that on January 10, 2021, just shortly after 6:00 p.m., Burton forced his way into an apartment unit at the Parkview Towers in Collingswood, New Jersey, while armed with a handgun. Upon entering the apartment, Burton restrained two women and two children, ages three and nine, at gunpoint. Burton demanded money and then pistol-whipped one of the women, causing her to sustain significant injuries. Burton ultimately fled the apartment.

While fleeing the apartment building, Burton also robbed and assaulted an additional man in the lobby at gunpoint. During the robbery, the man was pistol-whipped by Burton. Burton then fled in a vehicle into the City of Camden, New Jersey, where he led the Camden County Police Department on a lengthy pursuit throughout the City before ultimately being apprehended.

During the investigation, information was developed that revealed that the robbery stemmed from Burton’s girlfriend, Anada Shanks, 25, of Lindenwold, New Jersey, being dissatisfied with a tattoo she received from an individual associated with the apartment. Shanks, who is accused of acting as a co-conspirator, was also arrested and charged in connection with the robberies and is currently awaiting trial.
