Police Charge Man In Monday Morning Southeast Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Monday, a 61-year-old Washington, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with a shooting that occurred earlier that morning in Southeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Monday, October 27, 2025, shortly around 7:45 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a shooting on the 4900 Block of Ayers Place in Southeast, D.C.
Police Officers Find Man Shot
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The man was immediately transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital for treatment. The man’s condition is unknown at this time.
A short time later, while canvassing the area, Police Officers observed a suspect in the 4500 Block of Benning Road in Northeast, D.C. who matched the description provided by the victim. The suspect, identified as Matthew Lee Murphy, 61, of Southeast, D.C.. Police Officers obtained and executed a court-authorized search warrant at Murphy’s residence, where Police Officers located a loaded handgun.
Accordingly, on Monday, October 27, 2025, Murphy was formally charged with one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. He was processed on the charge and remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
