ELIZABETH, NJ.- Last Friday, a 28-year-old Newark, New Jersey, man learned he would be nearly 80 years old when he is released from New Jersey State Prison, after being sentenced to five decades for fatally gunning down an Elizabeth, New Jersey man in August of 2021.

According to Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel, on Friday, October 24, 2025, Jefferson Louis, 28, of Newark, New Jersey, appeared in Union County Superior Court and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Anthony Parenti, Jr., to 50 years in State Prison, after being found guilty on August 15, 2025, of first-degree Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose for the shooting death of Archeley Brizzard, 28, of Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Judge Parenti Ordered The Sentence To Be Subject To The No Early Release Act

In handing down the sentence, Judge Parenti ordered the sentence to be subject to the No Early Release Act, which will require Louis to serve 85% of his custodial term before becoming eligible for parole.

According to Union County Assistant Prosecutors Joseph Cho and Maura Janiszewski, who prosecuted the case, that on August 4, 2021, just shortly before 12:30 p.m., members of the Elizabeth Police Department responded to a report of gunfire at Jefferson Park in the City of Elizabeth. Upon arrival, Police Officers located Mr. Brizzard inside his vehicle, having succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.

“I hope this sentence can provide some assurance to the victim and his family, as well as the community, that we will not tolerate these egregious offenses and will expend all of our efforts to bring offenders to justice,” said Union County Prosecutor Daniel.
