TRENTON, NJ.- Detectives of the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a large altercation that occurred Friday night in New Jersey’s Capital City, leaving a 17-year-old boy dead.

According to Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey, on Friday, October 31, 2025, at around 10:00 p.m., members of the Trenton Police Department responded to multiple 911 Emergency Calls reporting a large disturbance on the First Block of East Hanover Street in the City of Trenton. Calls continued to come in to the Trenton Police Department, reporting several different events taking place, including a large group of teenagers involved in physical altercations, including individuals being stabbed or shot.

Upon arrival, Police Officers located a teenage boy unresponsive, lying in the street. The teen, identified as Gussiah McEachern, 17, of Trenton, New Jersey, was immediately transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. McEachern succumbed to a fatal injury and was pronounced deceased. The Cause and Manner of Death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

While at the hospital, Detectives located a second victim involved in the same East Hanover Street altercation. The victim, a 15-year-old Trenton, New Jersey boy, was treated for non-life-threatening cuts and stab wounds to his arms and legs.

Area video surveillance footage captured more than 100 individuals and multiple cars blocking East Hanover Street during the altercation.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. As of late Saturday afternoon, no arrests have been reported. Anyone with additional information regarding this investigation is urged to contact Detective James Rickey of the Mercer County Homicide Task Force at (609) 989-6406 or www.mercercountyprosecutor.com.
