Monday, November 3, 2025, 7:00 A.M. ET. 2 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

BRICK TOWNSHIP, NJ.- On Saturday, a 20-year-old Brick Township, New Jersey, woman was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with allegedly stabbing her 2-year-old brother in his chest.

According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, Marlene Rodriguez, 20, of Brick Township, New Jersey, was formally charged on Saturday with one count of first-degree Attempted Murder; second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Rodriguez was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Ocean County Jail pending future court proceedings in Ocean County Superior Court.

Police Received A Call Around 2:30 Reporting A Child Being Stabbed

The charges stem from an investigation that began on Saturday, November 1, 2025, when, around 2:30 p.m., members of the Brick Township Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a young child being injured inside a residence located on Burke Lane in the Township.

Upon arrival, Police Officers found a 2-year-old boy with a stab wound to his chest. The child was immediately transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey, where, as of Sunday afternoon, the child was listed in stable condition.

During the initial investigation, Detectives of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Major Crime Unit, the Brick Township Police Department, with assistance from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit, quickly determined that Rodriguez, the child’s sister, was responsible for the stabbing. She was later taken into custody at the Brick Township Police Department and charged.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office will file a motion with the court to detain Rodriguez pending trial.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
