WASHINGTON, DC.- U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) is facing a formal House Ethics Committee complaint alleging repeated violations of the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act, after watchdog groups uncovered multiple undisclosed or delayed stock transactions made during her first term in Congress.
The complaint, filed Monday by the Foundation for Public Accountability, accuses Crockett of failing to report several stock trades within the required 45-day period and of omitting key financial disclosures tied to companies with direct interests in legislation pending before congressional committees on which she serves.
According to the filing, Crockett purchased stock in energy and telecommunications firms that stood to benefit from measures she either sponsored or publicly supported. Some of those trades, watchdog investigators say, were made within days of legislative hearings connected to the same industries.
In response to the allegations, a spokesperson for Rep. Crockett said, “The congresswoman takes transparency seriously. Any errors in her disclosure reports were unintentional clerical mistakes, and all required amendments have been submitted.” However, the Foundation for Public Accountability insists the record shows a pattern of late and incomplete filings dating back more than a year.
If the Ethics Committee determines that Crockett violated federal reporting laws, potential consequences could include financial penalties, public censure, or even referral for criminal review under federal statute.
The complaint adds to growing bipartisan concern in Congress over members personally trading stocks while in office. Several lawmakers from both parties have faced similar ethics reviews, renewing calls for a full ban on individual stock trading by sitting members of Congress to restore public trust.
Rep. Crockett, a first-term Democrat and a prominent defender of President Biden’s policy agenda, has positioned herself as a rising figure within the party’s progressive wing. The ethics probe now threatens to undercut that image and could pose political risks ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, particularly as anti-corruption and accountability issues gain traction among voters.
