Police Charge Man In Two Paterson Shooting Incidents

PATERSON, NJ.- Last Monday, following two separate investigations, a 20-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with two shootings that occurred in October in the City of Paterson, New Jersey.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, on Monday, October 27, 2025, Vincent Santiago was formally charged in connection with a shooting that occurred on October 11, 2025, with second-degree Aggravated Assault; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; second-degree Aggravated Assault for Pointing a Firearm; and third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
For the October 23, 2025, shooting, Santiago was formally charged with second-degree Aggravated Assault; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; second-degree Aggravated Assault for Pointing a Firearm; and fourth-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
October 11, 2025, Shooting
The charges stem from investigations that began when, on October 11, 2025, just before 12:30 p.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the area of Arch and North 1st Streets in the City of Paterson. Upon arrival, Police Officers located evidence of a shooting crime scene, and during the initial investigation, Police Officers determined that no one was injured during the shooting.
October 23, 2025, Shooting
On October 23, 2025, at around 10:45 p.m., members of the Paterson Police Department again responded to the area of Arch and 1st Streets in the City of Paterson, after receiving a report of gunfire. Upon arrival, Police Officers located a 20-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The man was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he was treated, later released, and continues to recover at home.
During the ensuing investigations, Detectives of the Paterson Police Department’s Shooting Investigation Unit and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office were able to identify Santiago as the individual responsible for both shootings.
Accordingly, on Monday, October 27, 2025, Santiago was located and taken into custody by Detectives of the Paterson Police Department’s Shooting Investigation Unit in the area of Haledon Avenue and North Street in the City of Paterson. Santiago was additionally charged with second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and third-degree Receiving Stolen Property after the Detectives found Santiago in possession of a firearm during his arrest.
Santiago Will Remain Detained Pending Trial
Santiago was processed on the charges and was remanded to the custody of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office. On Friday, October 31, 2025, Santiago appeared in Passaic County Superior Court in Paterson, New Jersey, and was ordered detained pending trial on the charges.
If convicted at trial, and due to the nature of the charges and the crimes involved, two separate shootings, Santiago is facing decades in New Jersey State Prison.
