Lindenwold Man, Wanted For Murder, After Victim Dies From Injuries Sustained In June 2025, Assault Apprehended

LINDENWOLD, NJ.- On Monday, a 37-year-old Lindenwold, New Jersey, man wanted in connection with the beating death of a 42-year-old man was taken into custody and jailed for murder after the man he allegedly assaulted in June 2025 died of his injuries two months later.
According to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, Wilmer A. Velasquez-Orellans, 37, of Lindenwold, New Jersey, was charged with first-degree Murder for the beating death of Alvaro I. Reyes-Rizo, 42, of Lindenwold, New Jersey.
As Previously Reported On June 13, 2025
As previously reported, on June 13, 2025, just shortly before 5:00 a.m., members of the Lindenwold Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting an assault at the Pinewood Estates apartment complex located on the 500 Block of East Gibbsboro Road in Lindenwold. Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man, identified as Mr. Reyes-Rizo, suffering from a serious head injury. Mr. Reyes-Rizo was transported to Cooper University Hospital for treatment.
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives obtained surveillance video that captured a suspect, later identified as Velasquez-Orellans, hitting Mr. Reyes-Rizo in the head with a club-like weapon during a physical altercation. Velasquez-Orellans was taken into custody later in the day, on June 13, 2025, and formally charged with second-degree Aggravated Assault; third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. A Camden County Superior Court Judge later released Velasquez-Orellans on monitoring conditions.
On August 13, 2025, Mr. Reyes-Rizo Dies From Injuries
Just two months later, on August 13, 2025, Mr. Reyes-Rizo tragically succumbed to his injuries at Cooper University Hospital and was pronounced deceased. On August 14, 2025, Detectives charged Velasquez-Orellans with first-degree Murder, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Velasguez-Orellans Taken Into Custody On Monday
On Monday, November 3, 2025, members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, Camden Division, located and apprehended Velasquez-Orellans in Lindenwold, New Jersey. Following being taken into custody, he was processed on the charge and remanded to the Camden County Correction Facility pending future court proceedings in Camden County Superior Court.
If convicted at trial, Velasguez-Orellans faces a mandatory minimum of 30 years and up to life in New Jersey State Prison.
