Police Apprehend Man Wanted In April 2025, Northeast, D.C. Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Friday, a 35-year-old District Heights, Maryland, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with a D.C. Superior Court warrant with allegedly shooting a man back in April 2025, in Northeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, and as previously reported, on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at around 11:15 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District responded to reports of gunfire on the 3700 Block of Minnesota Avenue in Northeast, D.C.
Police Officers Locate A Man, Suffering From A Gunshot Wound
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man who had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The man was transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to a nearby hospital for treatment and has made a full recovery.
During the ensuing investigation, based on a description provided by the victim and area video surveillance footage, Detectives were able to identify Hakim Johnson, 35, of District Heights, Maryland, as the shooter, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Friday, November 7, 2025, following an extensive manhunt, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and apprehended Johnson pursuant to the arrest warrant charging him with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. During his arrest, Johnson was found unlawfully in possession of a handgun and was additionally charged with Carrying a Pistol Without a License; and Being a Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Johnson was processed on the charges and remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
