WASHINGTON, DC.- On Wednesday, a 21-year-old Washington, D.C., man currently detained in the D.C. Central Detention Facility was formally arrested and charged in connection with his role in fatally gunning down a 46-year-old man in July 2023, in Northwest, D.C.

According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, and as previously reported, on Sunday, July 30, 2023, just shortly before 2:45 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Fourth District responded to a location in Northwest, D.C., after receiving a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man, later identified as Donald B. Childs, 46, of Northwest, D.C., suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Mr. Childs, at the time, was transported to an area hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Childs succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

During the ensuing investigation, Homicide Branch Detectives were able to identify Iesha Marks, 29, of Bowie, Maryland, as a suspect and previously arrested and charged Marks with one count of first-degree Premeditated Murder While Armed. Further investigation led to Daniel Bangura, 29, of Southeast, D.C., as another suspect in the shooting death of Mr. Childs.

On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Fugitive Unit responded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, where Bangura is being detained on an unrelated matter, and formally charged him with one count of first-degree Premeditated Murder While Armed. Bangura was processed on the charge and remains detained in the custody of the D.C. Department of Corrections.
