PITTSBURGH, PA.- U.S. Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) was hospitalized early Thursday morning after suffering a fall outside his home in Braddock, Pennsylvania. According to his office, the 56-year-old senator experienced sudden light-headedness caused by a ventricular-fibrillation flare-up, leading him to lose his balance and strike his face on the ground.
Senator Fetterman, who sustained minor facial injuries, was transported to a Pittsburgh hospital, where he was admitted for observation and evaluation. His office said he is “doing well” and voluntarily chose to remain hospitalized as physicians work to adjust his cardiac medication regimen.
Despite the incident, the senator maintained his trademark sense of humor, reportedly joking, “If you thought my face looked bad before, wait until you see it now!”
The Pennsylvania lawmaker has a widely known medical history. In May 2022, Fetterman suffered an ischemic stroke during his Senate campaign and has undergone ongoing cardiac and neurological follow-ups in the years since. Thursday’s health episode has renewed attention on his long-term recovery, though aides emphasized that the hospitalization is precautionary and not the result of a life-threatening emergency.
No timeline was provided for his discharge or return to Senate duties. Staff in Washington were briefed early in the day, and Fetterman’s office said he remains reachable and fully able to manage essential responsibilities remotely.
What Comes Next;
- Physicians will determine when Fetterman can safely return home.
- Senate leadership is monitoring whether his absence will impact upcoming votes.
- Additional medical updates are expected later this week.
