WASHINGTON, DC.- On Wednesday, a 44-year-old Washington, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed pursuant to a DC Superior Court warrant charging him in connection with fatally gunning down a 36-year-old man in September at the recreation center in the  Brentwood neighborhood of Northeast, D.C.

According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, and as previously reported, on Monday, September 1, 2025, just minutes after 4:15 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District responded to multiple reports of a shooting on the 2300 Block of 14th Street in Northeast, D.C.

Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man, later identified as Francois Adkins, 36, of Northwest, D.C., on the ground, unresponsive, having sustained multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds. Mr. Adkins, at that time, was transported to a nearby hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Adkins succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

During the ensuing investigation, D.C. Homicide Branch Detectives, based on witness description and area video surveillance footage, were able to identify Tyrone Spencer, 44, of Southeast, D.C., as the shooter and the individual responsible for the death of Mr. Adkins, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Accordingly, on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Spencer was located and taken into custody. Following being taken into custody, Spencer was formally charged with first-degree Premediated Murder While Armed. He was processed on the charge and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
