Police Charge Man In May 2025 Jersey City Fatal Shooting Investigation

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, a 28-year-old Jersey City, New Jersey, man, and previously convicted felon, was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with fatally gunning down a 39-year-old Elizabeth, New Jersey, man in May 2025, in the Greenville section of Jersey City.
According to Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello, Gerard Rosario, 28, of Jersey City, was charged with first-degree Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Rosario was additionally charged with first-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons for being a Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Rosario was taken into custody on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in Union City, New Jersey, by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, Gang Task Force, and the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Charges Stem From A May 2025, Jersey City Fatal Shooting
The charges stem from an investigation that began on Saturday, May 3, 2025, when, just shortly after 4:00 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in the area of Old Bergen Road and Merritt Street in the City’s Greenville section. Upon arrival, Police Officers located an unresponsive man, later identified as Devon Reid, 39, of Elizabeth, New Jersey, in the driver’s seat of the vehicle that had crashed into the tree. Police Officers additionally discovered that Mr. Reid had sustained a gunshot wound to his neck.
At the time, Mr. Reid was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center, where he would later succumb to his injury and was pronounced deceased during the early evening hours on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit identified Rosario as the shooter and the individual responsible for the death of Mr. Reid, and a warrant was issued for his arrest, which led to Rosario’s apprehension on Wednesday.
