Saturday, November 15, 2025, 8:30 A.M. ET. 2 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

TRENTON, NJ.- On Friday, following an investigation, an 18-year-old Trenton, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the alleged stabbing death of a teenager that occurred during a disturbance on Halloween night in New Jersey’s Capital City.

According to Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey, Jemair Austin, 18, of Trenton, New Jersey, was formally charged with one count of first-degree Murder; third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Austin was taken into custody on Friday, November 14, 2025, in Trenton, New Jersey, by members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force. He was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Mercer County Correctional Center pending future court proceedings in Mercer County Superior Court in Trenton, New Jersey. The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion with the court to detain Austin pending trial.

The charges stem from an incident that unfolded on Friday, October 31, 2025, when, just minutes after 10:00 p.m., members of the Trenton Police Department responded to multiple 911 Emergency Calls reporting a large disturbance on the First Block of East Hanover Street in the City. Calls continued to come into the Police Department, reporting several events, including a large group of teenagers involved in a fight, and that someone may have been stabbed or shot.

Upon arrival, Police Officers located a single victim lying in the street, suffering from a life-threatening stab wound to his throat. The victim, identified as Gussiah McEachern, 17, of Trenton, New Jersey, was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where, despite life-saving efforts, Gussiah succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department were able to ultimately identify Austin as the individual who fatally stabbed Gussiah McEachern.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with additional information regarding the investigation is urged to contact Detective James Rickey of the Mercer County Homicide Task Force at (609) 989-6406. Tips can also be submitted anonymously at www.mercercountyprosecutor.com.
