NEWARK, NJ.- The Federal Bureau of Investigation has identified 51-year-old Keith Michael Lisa, a man with ties to Mahwah, New Jersey, and New York City, as the suspect wanted in connection with Wednesday night’s break-in and property destruction at the Newark offices of U.S. Attorney Alina Habba. A federal arrest warrant issued Thursday formally charges Lisa with Possession of a Dangerous Weapon in a Federal Facility and Destruction (Depredation) of Federal Property.
Inside the Late-Night Incident;
According to federal investigators, the attack began when Lisa allegedly attempted to enter the Peter W. Rodino Federal Building carrying a baseball-bat-style weapon. After security officers denied him access, he reportedly discarded the bat outside, re-entered the facility moments later, and made his way toward office areas used by the U.S. Attorney’s staff.
Once inside, Lisa is accused of damaging federal property, including office fixtures and secured areas. Officials say the incident unfolded over several minutes before Lisa fled the building. No federal employees were seriously injured, though authorities said the rapid response from on-site security prevented further escalation.
FBI Offering $25,000 Reward;
The FBI has issued a public notice offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to Lisa’s apprehension and conviction. Authorities describe him as approximately 6’3″, 200–230 pounds, with brown/gray hair and brown eyes. Investigators warn that he should be considered dangerous and advise the public not to approach him.
The FBI’s Newark Field Office is coordinating with local law enforcement in Mahwah, New York City, and surrounding areas, urging anyone with credible information about Lisa’s whereabouts to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit a tip through the Bureau’s online portal.
Ongoing Investigation And Possible Motive;
Federal investigators have not announced a confirmed motive but are examining whether Lisa harbored grievances related to recent or ongoing federal prosecutions overseen by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Officials say the attack does not appear random and believe the federal offices were deliberately targeted.
U.S. Attorney Habba was not present during the incident. Her office released a brief statement Friday praising federal officers for their “swift, disciplined, and courageous” response and confirming full cooperation with the FBI’s investigation.
Search Expands Across New Jersey And New York;
As of Friday night, multiple agencies were actively searching areas connected to Lisa, including Mahwah, Manhattan, and other parts of northern New Jersey. Investigators believe he may attempt to hide within familiar networks or travel out of state.
