TRENTON, NJ.- On Sunday, a 36-year-old Trenton, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with fatally shooting his girlfriend and injuring her friend earlier that morning during an apparent domestic dispute in New Jersey’s Capital City.

According to Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey, Lamont Truitt, 36, of Trenton, New Jersey, has been formally charged with one count of first-degree Murder; one count of first-degree Attempted Murder; first-degree Carjacking; two counts of second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and one count of second-degree Unlawful Purpose.

Truitt was additionally charged with one count of second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons after a records check revealed he had previously been convicted of a felony. He was taken into custody on Sunday, November 16, 2025, after surrendering to Detectives at the Trenton Police Department. He was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Mercer County Correctional Center pending future court proceedings in Mercer County Superior Court. The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion with the court to detain Truitt pending trial.

The charges stem from an investigation that began on Sunday, November 16, 2025, when, shortly before 6:00 a.m., members of the Trenton Police Department responded to a multi-shot ShotSpotter activation in the area of Oakland Street in the City of Trenton. While responding to the scene, the Trenton Police Department began receiving several 911 Emergency Calls reporting a woman being shot in the leg.

Based on the calls, Responding Police Officers were led to the 200 Block of Coolidge Avenue, where they found a 25-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her leg. The woman was immediately transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment. As of early afternoon today, the woman’s condition was unknown.

During this time, another call came into the Trenton Police Department reporting that a woman had been shot multiple times by a man who fled in a silver, four-door sedan. Detectives of the Mercer County Homicide Task Force were notified and responded to the location of the alleged shooting.

With the second shooting victim being unable to be located, Detective Luis Vega of the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department utilized various investigative methods and law enforcement intelligence to piece together what had occurred.

The investigation uncovered that the victim, later identified as Alyssia Murphy, 32, of Trenton, New Jersey, was in a silver Toyota Camry parked on Coolidge Avenue, with a friend, when Murphy’s boyfriend, identified as Truitt, approached the Camry and began arguing with Murphy, who then pulled out a handgun and fired multiple rounds into the vehicle. The 25-year-old woman was able to exit the car. Truitt then entered the Camry and drove away.

Just about two hours later, Lower Makefield Township, Pennsylvania, Police Officers located the lifeless body of Ms. Murphy inside a silver Toyota Camry in the area of East Ferry Road and the Delaware Canal in Pennsylvania.
