Prosecutor’s Office Investigating The Death Of An Inmate At The Hudson County Correctional Facility

KEARNY, NJ.- The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 32-year-old Jersey City, New Jersey, man who died at the hospital after being found unresponsive inside his jail cell Saturday morning at the Hudson County Correctional Facility located in Kearny, New Jersey.
According to Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello, on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at around 7:40 a.m., Hudson County Corrections Officers located a male inmate, later identified as John Finucane, 32, of Jersey City, New Jersey, unresponsive inside his jail cell.
Corrections Officers and Jail Medical Personnel immediately began life-saving measures, and Mr. Finucane was immediately transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Finucane was subsequently pronounced deceased just shortly after 8:30 a.m.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. During the initial investigation, Hudson County Correctional Staff and Detectives notified the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, due to Mr. Finucane’s death occurring while he was in the custody of law enforcement.
