Bergen County Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting A Child

HACKENSACK, NJ.- Last Wednesday, following an investigation, a 42-year-old Hackensack, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with sexually assaulting a child for nearly a year, during an apparent inappropriate sexual relationship in Hackensack, New Jersey.

     According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, earlier this month, the Hackensack Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit after the Police Department received an allegation of a juvenile being sexually assaulted in the past.

Detectives Uncover Child Sex Crimes

     During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, in conjunction with the Hackensack Police Department, and following interviewing witnesses, including the juvenile victim, uncovered that Fernando Sandoval, 42, of Hackensack, New Jersey, sexually assaulted and endangered the child in Hackensack, New Jersey, on multiple occasions between December 21, 2024, and November 2, 2025.

     Accordingly, on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Sandoval was taken into custody in Hackensack, New Jersey, and formally charged with second-degree Sexual Assault; second-degree Attempted Sexual Assault; two counts of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; and fourth-degree Criminal Sexual Contact.

     Sandoval was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
