ENGLEWOOD, NJ.- On Monday, a 44-year-old Dumont, New Jersey, man, employed as a Sergeant with the Jersey City Police Department, and the former Dumont Mayor, was taken into custody and jailed after being formally charged with allegedly raping a juvenile he met on a social media platform earlier in the day.

According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Monday, November 17, 2025, members of the Englewood Police Department contacted Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit after a juvenile came forward and reported to police that they were allegedly sexually assaulted by a man they met on a social media application earlier in the day.

During a swift-moving investigation by Detectives of the Bergen County Special Victims Unit, in conjunction with the Englewood Police Department, quickly determined that Andrew Labruno, 44, of Dumont, New Jersey, who was unknown to the child, engaged in a conversation with the child on a social media chat application, and made arrangements to meet. Labruno then traveled to the child’s home in Englewood, New Jersey, and sexually assaulted the child, who was home alone.

Labruno Was Arrest And Charged Later On Monday

Accordingly, on Monday, November 17, 2025, Labruno was taken into custody and formally charged with first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault; second-degree Sexual Assault; and third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Labruno was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion with the court to detain Labruno pending trial. The status of Labruno’s employment with the Jersey City Police Department following his arrest was not reported.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
