MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, NJ.- A 36-year-old Ocean Township, New Jersey, man and the head girls’ basketball coach at Middletownship High School North will be facing over five years in New Jersey State Prison when sentenced next year, after pleading guilty to a charge in connection with carrying on an inappropriate sexual relationship with his student.
According to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago, earlier last week, Justin McGhee, 36, of Ocean Township, New Jersey, appeared in Monmouth County Superior Court and pleaded guilty before Superior Court Judge Henry P. Butehorn to one count of second-degree Sexual Assault.
McGhee Will Be Facing Over Five Years In State Prison
In return for the guilty plea, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office will recommend that McGhee be sentenced to five years, six months in state prison. In addition, McGhee will be subject to parole supervision for life and be required to register as a sex offender. Additionally, he will refrain from any contact with the victim, forfeit public employment, and be barred from Middletownship High School North property. Following entering his guilty plea, Judge Butehorn accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for February 20, 2026.
The guilty plea stems from an investigation led by Detectives from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Bureau and the Middletown Township Police Department. During the investigation, Detectives determined that late last year, McGhee engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with one of his students. McGhee was taken into custody on January 28, 2025, without incident and formally charged. At the time of his arrest, he was placed on administrative leave from the school district.
Monmouth County Prosecutor Santiago commended the investigative work of the Monmouth County Special Victims Bureau and the Middletown Township Police Department for McGhee’s arrest and last week’s guilty plea.
