Police Charge Teenage Boy With Displaying A Handgun Near D.C. School

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Thursday, a 15-year-old Southeast, D.C., boy was taken into custody and detained after being charged in connection with pulling out a handgun in an alleged assault in Northeast, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at around 1:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s First District responded to a request for assistance from a D.C. Public School Officer who had detained a 15-year-old boy on the 1700 Block of East Capitol Street in Northeast, D.C.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers learned that a Public School Officer had detained the teen after witnessing him pulling out a handgun on East Capitol Street and pointing it at the victim. Police Officers placed the teenager under arrest.

Teenager Charged With Multiple Weapons Offenses

     Accordingly, following being taken into custody, the teen was formally charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon; Carrying a Pistol without a License; and Possession of Unregistered Ammunition. The teen was processed on the charges and detained pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia Family Law Division.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: As in adult criminal cases, the charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and a juvenile defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.”
