NEWARK, NJ.- Earlier this month, a 31-year-old Brooklyn, New York, man learned he will be spending the next decade in federal prison after being sentenced for his role in a months-long child sex trafficking scheme that operated out of motels in Union County, New Jersey.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney and Special Appointed Attorney Alina Habba, on Friday, November 7, 2025, Soauib Butcher, 31, of Brooklyn, New York, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Michael E. Farbiarz to 121 months in federal prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release after previously pleading guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Sex Trafficking of a Minor.

According To Documents Filed With The Court

According to documents filed with the District Court, in August 2019, Butcher met the child victim at a train station and brought her to Elizabeth, New Jersey, where, from August 2019 to January 2020, the child victim stayed with Butcher and a co-conspirator in a series of motel rooms.

During that time, the co-conspirator posted advertisements depicting the child victim on escort websites and, together with Butcher, arranged for customers to come to the motel rooms to have sex with the child victim in exchange for money.

“Soauib Butcher supported himself, for several months, on the daily sexual exploitation of a minor. This sentence sends a message that this Office is committed to protecting children from sexual predators,” said Acting U.S. Attorney and Special Attorney Alina Habba.

The investigation and prosecution were conducted as part of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey’s Human Trafficking Task Force, which was launched in 2025, to combat and prosecute human trafficking offenders who endanger the safety of the community.
