CONCORD, NH.- Last Monday, a 45-year-old former Vermont man and convicted child predator learned he will be facing spending a decade in federal prison when sentenced next year, after pleading guilty to failing to register as a sex offender after relocating to New Hampshire.
According to U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan, on Monday, November 24, 2025, David Courtemarche, 45, formerly of Vermont, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Paul J. Barbadoro to Failing to Register as a Sex Offender.
Following entering his guilty plea, Judge Barbadoro accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for March 2, 2026. At that time, Courtemarche faces up to 10 years in federal prison, at least five years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. At sentencing, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Courtemarche’s prior criminal history.
According To The Charging Information Filed With The Court
According to the charging information file with the District Court, in 2003, Courtemarche was convicted in the State of Vermont of the sexual assault of a child under the age of sixteen. Due to his conviction, the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) and related State Laws required Courtemarche to register in each state where he resided or was employed. SORNA gives an individual three days to register. Courtemarche’s Vermont registration paperwork notified him of these requirements, and Courtemarche claimed he lived in Vermont.
However, by at least August of 2022, he began working in New Hampshire, and by November 2023, he began living in New Hampshire. Though Courtemarche lived and worked in New Hampshire and knew that Federal and State Law required him to register as a sex offender in New Hampshire, Courtemarche failed to do so.
U.S. Attorney Creegan commended the investigative work of the U.S. Marshals Service, the New Hampshire State Police, the Littleton Police Department, and the Lancaster Police Department, which led to Courtemarche’s guilty plea and pending sentence.
