PATERSON, NJ.- On Wednesday, following a nearly five-week investigation, a 32-year-old Leonia, New Jersey, man, employed as an elementary school teacher at Paterson Public School No. 25, was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with allegedly sexually assaulting a 9-year-old female student.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, on October 22, 2025, an Investigator with the Institutional Abuse Investigation Unit of the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency contacted Detectives of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit after a 9-year-old girl came forward reporting that she had been sexually abused by a teacher at Paterson Public School No. 25, during the school day.
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives determined that Paul Yang, 32, of Leonia, New Jersey, in the capacity of a teacher, sexually assaulted the child.
Accordingly, on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, Yang was taken into custody and formally charged with one count of second-degree Sexual Assault; and second-degree Child Endangerment. He was processed on the charges and was remanded to the custody of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office.
Today, December 4, 2025, Yang made his first appearance in Passaic County Central Judicial Processing Court and was ordered detained pending a detention hearing, which will be heard at a later date before a Superior Court Judge.
If convicted at trial, Yang faces up to a maximum of 20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
Any inquiries into Yang’s employment status can be made to the Paterson Board of Education.
