Tuesday, December 9, 2025, 4:00 P.M. ET. 2 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Monday, an 18-year-old Upper Marlboro, Maryland, man wanted in connection with fatally gunning down an 18-year-old man, back in late June of 2024, in Northwest, D.C., was taken into custody and formally charged with the teenager’s murder.

According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Saturday, June 30, 2024, just minutes after 4:15 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to the sounds of gunfire on the 700 Block of Missouri Avenue in Northwest, D.C.

Upon arrival, Police Officers began to canvass the surrounding area, where they located a man, later identified as Raymond Washington, 18, of Northeast, D.C., on the ground on the 5700 Block of 7th Street, in Northwest, D.C., suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. At that time, Mr. Washington was transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Washington succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

During the ensuing investigation, D.C. Homicide Branch Detectives, based on witness accounts and area video camera footage, were able to identify Byron Sneed, 40, of Northwest, D.C., and Treshawn Herndon, 18, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, as the individuals responsible for the shooting death of Mr. Washington, and warrants were issued for their arrests.

Early this year, on Friday, March 21, 2025, Sneed was located and taken into custody and charged pursuant to the DC Superior Court warrant with one count of first-degree Premeditated Murder While Armed. He was processed on the charge and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, where he remains pending trial.

Following nearly an 18-month manhunt, on Monday, December 8, 2025, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Herndon. At the time of the fatal shooting of Mr. Washington, Herndon was a juvenile and charged as an adult under Title 16 with one count of first-degree Premeditated Murder While Armed. He was processed on the charge and remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
