Syracuse Convicted Child Predator Pleads Guilty To Possession Of Child Pornography

ALBANY, NY.- A 31-year-old Syracuse, New York, man and convicted registered sex offender will potentially be facing up to 20 years in federal prison when sentenced next year, after pleading guilty earlier this month to possessing digital images and video files depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of children.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone, III, in early this month, Kurt Dobler, 31, of Syracuse, New York, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York and pleaded guilty to a federal information charging him with one count of Possession of Child Pornography.

Following entering his guilty plea, the court accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for March 31, 2026. At that time, Dobler faces a mandatory minimum of ten years and up to 20 years in federal prison, at least 5 years and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. In addition, Dobler would be required to pay restitution to his identified victims. At sentencing, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Dobler’s prior criminal history.

Dobler Admits To Being A Convicted Sex Offender

During his plea allocution, Dobler admitted that he was convicted in February 2023 in Fulton County Superior Court of possessing a sexual performance by a child and was sentenced to 10 years of probation. While on probation for that offense, Dobler, in May 2025, knowingly possessed thousands of digital images and video files containing child pornography on his cellular phone, including files depicting the horrific sexual abuse of infants by adults.

Acting U.S. Attorney Sarcone said, “The defendant was completely undeterred from his heinous conduct despite a prior State conviction for doing the same thing, presumably because he received a slap-on-the-wrist probationary sentence. Now he will be spending at least a decade in jail. That’s the power of federal law enforcement, and my Office won’t hesitate to use it on a repeat sex offender like this defendant.”
