Convicted Mexican National Sentenced For Illegal Reentry Into The U.S.

HARTFORD, CT.- Last Thursday, a 40-year-old Mexican man, formerly illegally residing in Meriden, Connecticut, learned he will be spending time in federal prison before being returned to Mexico after being sentenced for illegally being in the United States.

     According to U.S. Attorney David X. Sullivan, on Thursday, December 11, 2025, Juan Jose Carrasco Cardenas, 40, of Mexico, formerly residing in Meriden, Connecticut, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Michael P. Shea to six months in federal prison, after pleading guilty to Illegally Reentering the United States by a Deported Alien.

According To Court Documents

     According to charging documents and statements made in the District Court, in January 2022, Carrasco Cardenas was encountered by U.S. Border Patrol and was issued a voluntary return to Mexico. In May 2009, U.S. Border Patrol again encountered Carrasco Cardenas illegally entering the country in Arizona. He was charged federally in the District of Arizona with illegal reentry and subsequently sentenced to five days of imprisonment, and in June 2009, was issued a voluntary return to Mexico. 

     In January 2018, Carrasco Cardenas was taken into custody in Saline County, Kansas, and charged with multiple related charges pertaining to narcotics trafficking, marijuana. He was convicted of a state marijuana distribution offense and was sentenced to 30 months in Kansas State Prison. Following serving his sentence, Carrasco Cardenas was removed from the United States and returned to Mexico in October 2019.

     On August 27, 2025, Carrasco Cardenas was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations in Meriden, Connecticut. He previously pleaded guilty on September 18, 2025, to the charge.

     Carrasco Cardenas has remained in custody since his August 2025 arrest and will be immediately removed from the United States upon completing his term of federal imprisonment.
