WASHINGTON, DC.- On Tuesday, a 30-year-old Suitland, Maryland, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with allegedly shooting a man earlier this year in Southeast, D.C.

According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Monday, February 10, 2025, just shortly after 11:45 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to the sounds of gunfire on the 2300 Block of Southern Avenue in Southeast, D.C.

Responding Police Officers Learn That The Victim Walked Into The Hospital

Upon arrival, Responding Police Officers located evidence of a shooting crime scene but were unable to locate a victim. A short time later, while canvassing the area, Police Officers were notified that an adult male had walked into an area hospital seeking treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Based on a description provided by the victim and area video surveillance camera footage, Detectives were able to identify Granderson McClenton Spruill, III, 30, of Suitland, Maryland, as the shooter, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Spruill was located and taken into custody and formally charged pursuant to the Superior Court warrant with one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon; and Possession of a Firearm During a Crime of Violence. Spruill was processed on the charges and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
