According to Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello, Detectives of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit formally charged a 17-year-old boy with first-degree Aggravated Manslaughter; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Tampering with Physical Evidence. The teen was taken into custody on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

The arrest and charges stem from an investigation that unfolded on Friday, December 12, 2025, just shortly after 5:10 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting an injured man inside an apartment located on Rose Avenue in the Greenville neighborhood of Jersey City.
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a juvenile boy, later identified as Al-Jahmir Curry, 16, of Pennsylvania, having succumbed to a gunshot wound to his upper chest. The teen was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene. A subsequent autopsy performed by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be a gunshot wound to the upper chest and the Manner of Death to be Homicide.
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Hudson County Homicide Unit, in conjunction with the Jersey City Police Department, were able to link the 17-year-old boy to the fatal shooting, resulting in the arrest and charges being filed.
