Police Searching For Suspect In Sunday Morning Southeast Deadly Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- Detectives of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are continuing the investigation into the shooting death of a 23-year-old man, who was fatally gunned down, just seven blocks from White House, Sunday morning in Southeast, D.C.
According to Interim D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Jeffery W. Carroll, on Sunday, December 21, 2025, just minutes after 6:00 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a shooting on the 2300 Block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Southeast, D.C.
Upon arrival, Responding Police Officers found a man, later identified as Dennis Ziegler, 23, Northeast, D.C., unresponsive from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Mr. Ziegler was immediately transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Ziegler succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No arrests have been reported, as Detectives are continuing the investigation into the circumstances that led up to the fatal shooting.
