Hillsdale Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting A Child

HILLSDALE, NJ.- On Tuesday, following a month-long investigation, an 82-year-old Hillsdale, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with allegedly sexually assaulting a child in the past in Hillsdale, New Jersey.

     According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Sunday, November 23, 2025, a caseworker from the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency contacted Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding an allegation of a juvenile being sexually assaulted over a decade ago, and an investigation was launched.

Detectives Uncover Alleged Child Sex Crimes

     During the ensuing investigation, and following interviewing witnesses, including the victim, Detectives determined that David M. Stewart, 82, of Hillsdale, New Jersey, had sexually assaulted and endangered the juvenile on more than one occasion, between April 2014 and April 2016, in Hillsdale, New Jersey.

     Accordingly, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, Stewart was taken into custody in Hillsdale, New Jersey, and formally charged with two counts of second-degree Sexual Assault; and one count of second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Stewart was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
