Police Searching For Suspect In Last Tuesday’s Southeast Shooting Death

WASHINGTON, DC.- Detectives of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are continuing the investigation into the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old Washington, D.C., man, who died from injuries after being gunned down last Tuesday night in Southeast, D.C.

     According to Interim D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Jeffery W. Carroll, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at around 8:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a man being shot on the 1300 Block of Congress Street in Southeast, D.C.

     Upon arrival, Responding Police Officers located a man, later identified as Devonta Prince Williams, 30, of Southeast, D.C., on the ground suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Mr. Williams was immediately transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to a nearby hospital for treatment, where, despite life-saving efforts, on Sunday, December 28, 2025, Mr. Williams succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

     The investigation remains active and ongoing. No arrests have been reported, as Detectives continue the search for the gunman and a motive for the shooting death.
