One Dead, One Injured In Paterson, NJ Shooting

Man Fatally Gunned Down & Another Hospitalized In New Year’s Day Shooting In The City Of Paterson

PATERSON, NJ.- Police are continuing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding a double shooting that occurred on New Year’s Day in Downtown Paterson, New Jersey, that left one Paterson, New Jersey, man dead and another man hospitalized from a gunshot wound.

     According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, on January 1, 2026, just shortly after 7:00 a.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the area of Market Street and Memorial Drive in the City’s downtown neighborhood.

     Upon arrival, Responding Police Officers discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men were immediately transported by Paterson Fire and Emergency Medical Services to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where, despite life-saving efforts, one of the victims, a 36-year-old man from Paterson, New Jersey, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased upon arrival. The other victim, identified as a 55-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man, remains hospitalized and has been listed in stable condition.

     The investigation remains active and ongoing. No arrests have been reported at this time.
