Newark Man Sentenced To Over Six Decades In Prison For Murder & Assault

NEWARK, NJ.- Last month, a 40-year-old Newark, New Jersey, man learned he will most likely die in New Jersey State Prison, after being sentenced to over 60 years for his April 2025 convictions in a 2023 triple shooting that claimed the life of a 38-year-old Newark, New Jersey, man and left two others injured.

According to Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, late last month, Dajjuan Fiester, 40, of Newark, New Jersey, appeared in Essex County Superior Court and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Patrick J. Arre to 61 years and six months in State Prison for his April 17, 2025, conviction on 11 counts, including Murder, Aggravated Assault, and related Weapons offenses in two separate shootings in that occurred in 2023 and 2022.

In handing down the sentence, Judge Arre ordered the sentence to be subject to the No Early Release Act, which will require Fiester to serve 85% of his custodial term before becoming eligible for parole.

During the trial, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office presented evidence that proved beyond a reasonable doubt that on May 7, 2023, Fiester fatally gunned down Julius Ferguson, 38, of Newark, New Jersey, and shot Daniel Campbell, 22, also of Newark, New Jersey, and Michael Newby, 25, of East Orange, New Jersey, outside the Paraiso Bar located on Orange Street in Newark, New Jersey.

During the investigation into the shooting, Investigators conducted ballistic tests that revealed that one of the guns used in the shooting death of Mr. Ferguson was linked to a shooting that occurred on August 6, 2022, on North 5th Street in Newark, New Jersey. Fiester was convicted of second-degree assault and related weapons offenses in that shooting.

“While no amount of time can ever replace a life lost, we hope that this sentence brings some form of closure to Mr. Feguson’s family as well as the additional victims. Gun violence cannot be tolerated, and these senseless acts cannot go unpunished,” said Assistant Prosecutor Julianne Bollettieri, who prosecuted the case.
